An estimated 8.5 million Windows devices were affected by CrowdStrike’s buggy software update that triggered massive outages.
Gift Cards Invalidated Due to Fraud Risk
Now there’s a funny new development. CrowdStrike offered $10 Uber Eats gift cards to team members and partners to apologize after last week’s massive system outage. However, these cards were deemed invalid due to the risk of fraud. The company distributed these gift cards to apologize and say thank you after the outages.
But when some users tried to redeem their gift cards on Uber Eats, they were met with a screen saying the cards were invalid. Uber decided that the cards posed a fraud risk due to their unusual redemption rates and invalidated them.
CrowdStrike confirmed that the gift cards were only sent to team members and partners, not customers, and that Uber canceled them due to fraud risk.
On the other hand, the company said the outage was caused by a software update.
