Etna, the highest volcano in Europe,is an active volcano on the east coast of Sicily, close to Messina and Catania. Its current height is 3,357 m, but this height changes from time to time with eruptions at the summit.
Catania International Airport has been closed to flights due to the increase in volcanic activity of the Etna Volcano located on the Italian Island of Sicily.
It was reported that flights were canceled due to reduced visibility caused by lava and ash erupting from Mount Etna.

With the volcanic temperature increase of Mount Etna, Catania International Airport is operating flights
In the statement made by the airport, it was stated that the situation “will result in suspensions, cancellations and/or diversions to other airports” and that normal operations will resume when the ash fallout ends.
Can passengers request a refund?
In the event of a flight cancellation or a delay of more than three hours, airlines are required to offer customers either an alternative flight or a refund.
However, this policy may not apply in cases where flight cancellations are due to volcanic eruptions.
